Actually, Kosta Boda Art Hotel is two different ideas that became one. The fact that at least one really good hotel was needed in the Kingdom of Crystal was already documented in several places when we acquired Orrefors Kosta Boda AB in 2005, so a hotel in itself wasn't our idea, but we quickly embraced it. At the same time, I was toying with the idea of building a major art glass exhibition. I felt that we had far too poor exposure to the art glass in which we are world leaders thanks to our fantastic designers and glassworkers. Somewhere along the way, the idea was born – we'll build the world's first art glass hotel! There are design hotels and now there is also Kosta Boda Art Hotel! The result and the response since then has been completely fantastic!
The hotel itself cannot be described fairly, but must be experienced, and I hope that you have experienced, or will experience it, personally. Our ambition is to belong to the top tier of hotels in the world, not only in terms of fantastic design and art experience, but also in terms of food, drink and service.
Imagine checking into the hotel while admiring the works of art in reception, swimming in a work of art, climbing towards the sky on a colourful glass ladder, or enjoying something nice in the bar which is itself a major work of art – it is fantastic for the soul. Have we then achieved what we set out to do? It is hard and difficult work every day to run a top-class hotel, but I am incredibly proud and pleased with our high occupancy rate, many returning guests and all the words of praise that we receive, and we constantly strive to do our best so that everyone enjoys their stay.
The hotel's success also gave us the courage to go ahead and open Linnéa Art Restaurant, the old Linnéa, in Gothenburg. There you get a taste of the hotel and a chance to see some of our art glass. In addition, you get to enjoy fantastic food that has already been ranked at the top in several surveys! Naturally thanks to our fantastic chefs, who you will also meet in the book.
